Listing a few pieces of Classical Music for Metalheads to enjoy

In our not so humble opinions, Metal and Classical go together like peanut butter and jelly. If you have landed here by a search engine looking for ideas of what kind of Classical Music to listen to if you're a Metalhead, you've landed in the right place.

First off, we're a Romantic Metal band called Astral Eyes. We write music that is a combination of 19th Century Romanticism and Heavy Metal. Roman is Classically trained and studies the orchestration of the classics on a daily basis. And Skitz just loves music. So yes, you've landed in the right place.

We could suggest tons of pieces, but this will probably be a three or four part article. Here's the first one.

Classical Music for Metalheads

First off, let us suggest Modest Mussorsky's Night on Bald Mountain. Even what this piece is about screams "METAL!!!" It's about a Witches' Sabbath on a cursed mountain occurring on St. John's Eve. If you love Metal, you'll more than likely love this epic symphonic fantasy.

Secondly, let us suggest Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. In celebration of Russia's defeat of Napoleon, Peter Tchaikovsky was commissioned to compose a piece to commemorate the event. What he wrote ended up being so popular in America that to this day, Americans play it on July 4th to celebrate their country's independence.

Tchaikovsky composed it with cannons (of course shooting blanks as you don't want to kill your fans). Yes, real cannons. How Metal is that?

And third, how about Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries? If you've seen Apocalypse Now, you'll recognize this piece from that famous scene. A Valkyrie is an immortal female being who brings warriors slain in battle to Valhalla to fight alongside Odin. Of course, since you're a Metalhead, you already know that.

You left A LOT out

Of course we did. Like we said, this will probably be a three or four part article. And for the people who are already our fans who stumbled across this page, you know we're prejudiced towards the Romantic era so we'll be skipping over obvious pieces like Bach's Toccata and Fugue and Holst's Mars, the Bringer of War.
