We're not Gothic Metal

We're not Gothic Metal. We're Romantic Metal. However, there is overlap as Gothic lyrics can trace their ancestry to Romanticism. Today's Gothic Metal is a combination of Heavy Metal + Gothic Rock.

Gothic fiction was an extreme form of Romanticism where the writers wrote about horror, the occult, fantastic monsters, the undead, and insanity. Authors ranged from extremely talented like Mary Shelley to quite mediocre (won't mention any names). Gothic writing started in the 1760s and got pretty big in the 19th century. America of course had the great Edgar Allen Poe.

I'm a huge fan of Gothic fiction. Poe is one of my favorite authors. But we're not a Gothic band. With all due respect, I'm just too happy to be a Goth. You'll find similarities in some of our songs. But keep in mind, I said "some" of our songs.

Gothic fiction was a subset of Romantic fiction. Thus, the overlap. Gothic Metal though tends to be slower. We're faster in tempo than the average band. And also, although we both like some Gothic Metal bands, they're more like a minority when it comes to our influences.

Another overlap between us and Gothicism is I'm a big fan of Gothic architecture. I absolutely love Gothic architecture in Europe and the neo-Gothic architecture here in the States. When in Barcelona, of course I stay in the Gothic Quarter. It's one of my favorite tourist destinations because it's just so cool. Yes, I realize that a lot of the buildings are neo-Goth as do you seriously expect residential areas from the 1200s to stay perfectly intact? Of course you'll have to rebuild them.

Anyways, we borrow from a lot of different styles. Calling us a particular style is absurd. That's why we invented Romantic Metal. We wanted to do our own thing instead of copying someone else. Romanticism and Metal have yet to be combined. We were the first and we're trying as hard as we can to give you music that is both original and memorable. We strive to give you the best listener experience possible.
